During the weekends on this event all the normal hubbub of communications partially shuts down which is not usual in other events. The effect is that the feeling of isolation grows a little - so simple - I phone home - Andrea and Soren are away staying at Andreas parents for the weekend, Soren is asleep in the car when I call. Gringo is out partying at a 70's night with all the usual suspects.
As for onboard Ecover - I'm sweating buckets packing and stacking sails, baling out bilges, mopping up split diesel and generally trying to instigate some hygiene and organisation. This Saturday evening, I will dine on freeze dried food for one ( roast lamb and mash) and drinking a mildly salty powdered orange squash. If I am lucky I will get a few hours kip on a salt infested bunk in an airless corner of the boat.
Being a transoceanic yacht racer is not glam!.
Some consolation are the miles we have gained on Bernard over the past few days, Ecover could be sub 300 by tomorrow AM!. Still the next few days are going to be even more telling, if the weather files are totally right we are going to lose miles "big style" over the next week to 10 days. There is however a slim possibility that Bernard may slow or even stop, if he does that may just give me the chance to prevent that from happening so badly.
