The dismasted ECOVER 3 was delivered 200 litres of fuel, some fresh meat and bread and much appreciated beer for Mike by the Australian Navy this morning.

19.12.08PROGRESS TO PERTH

Mike has made excellent progress overnight, motor sailing with his small jury rigged boom and storm staysail. He has been averaging speeds of over 6kts with about 680Nm to go to Perth.

The conditions down south are, not surprisingly, living up to their reputation, which is not particularly conducive to comfort. A boat with no mast really gets shaken around because the centre of gravity is so low so Golding thinks he'll spend a fair amount of time under motor.

17.12.0824 HOURS ON - ECOVER 3 UNDER JURY RIG AND EN-ROUTE TO PERTH

Earlier today Mike Golding was able to set up the jury rig on ECOVER 3 and is now making slow progress towards Perth, Western Australia, some 900-odd miles away.

It is now ten hours since Mike dismasted 975 miles south of Perth and during time he has been making the boat safe and talking to supporters, sponsors and the media.

16.12.08GOLDING DISMASTS IN SOUTHERN OCEAN WHILE LEADING VENDÉE GLOBE

ECOVER 3 dismasted at 0647hGMT this morning 830 miles south of Cape Leeuwin, Australia, while leading the Vendée Globe.

After 37 days of unbelievably close racing Mike Golding has taken the overall lead in the Vendée Globe for his first time on this race.

15.12.08RIDING THE DEPRESSION TO ICE GATE THREE

Once past ice gate three, Mike will probably head back south to make for the next waypoint, ice gate four, adjacent to the south eastern tip of Australia, at 52 degrees south.
