Mike Golding Yacht Racing Ltd
Mike Golding OBE is one of the world’s most accomplished and successful offshore sailors. An IMOCA and FICO world champion, over two decades Mike has consistently achieved race winning performances in many of the most prestigious round the world and transoceanic races.
In 1994 Mike sailed the 67ft yacht Group 4 solo around the world – establishing a new world record for the fastest singlehanded circumnavigation East to West.
An unequivocal win of his third circumnavigation in 1996/7 with a mixed 21 strong team on the BT Global Challenge Round the World Race confirmed Mike’s world class reputation in both solo and fully crewed offshore sailing disciplines.
In 2007 Mike was awarded an OBE by The Queen for his services to sport (sailing).
During his career Mike has also raced 4 Vendee Globe round the world races – most recently in 2012/13, led the British Admiral’s Cup Team and campaigned for 2 years on the Extreme Sailing Series. He has established and holds numerous world records and awards – including the prestigious “Emile Robin” and “Royal Humane Society” awards following the successful rescue of fellow solo sailor Alex Thomson from his sinking yacht in a remote part of the Southern Ocean.
Mike’s passion for the oceans and sailing in all its forms is undiminished and he continues to develop new projects and challenges. As current Chair of “World Sailings” Sustainability Commission Mike supports initiatives that improve the sports environmental impact and he uses his unique experience and knowledge of the world’s oceans to reach and educate a wide non-sailor audience.
